Matthew Care-Wickham, 30, appeared at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Monday in front of Magistrate Peter Mithen.
Mr Care-Wickham sat with his hands folded in his lap, appearing tired as he yawned throughout yesterday's court proceedings.
He was arrested on Friday afternoon shortly after a Mooroopna man, 32, suffered six stab wounds to his torso and arm following a physical altercation.
Shepparton police Senior Constable Leon Schroeter said the incident occurred about 2.30pm on Friday in Northgate St, Mooroopna.
Sen Const Schroeter said the stabbing was not a random attack, saying the two men were known to each other.
A Goulburn Valley Health spokesperson said the victim was taken to hospital following the incident with non life-threatening injuries.
“They were attended to in theatre that afternoon and he was discharged the following day, stable and fine,” they said.
Mr Care-Wickham's defence lawyer Anthony Coote did not apply for bail for his client yesterday, instead asking for the case to be adjourned until February 4 next year for a committal mention.
Mr Care-Wickham will remain in custody until this date when he will appear in court via video link.
