Police said the car had been parked in front of the victim's house at the time of the incident, which they believe occurred between 9pm on Monday last week and 7am the next day.
The victim heard his dogs barking overnight, possibly disturbing the offender.

Police said the glove box and consoles were found open, with the contents left on the driver seat.
A quantity of tools were stolen.

A silver Mitsubishi Pajero wagon parked on the front lawn of a property in Rowe St, Numurkah was stolen overnight on Thursday last week.
The car, which had tools, an Apple iPod, portable stereo and a GPS inside, had been left unlocked with the keys inside.

A property on Moran St in Picola has been the site of several suspect loiterers and thefts recently.
Police said a trailer was taken from the rear yard on Wednesday last week at about 3pm.
Two men in their 20s were later seen driving south on the Picola South Rd with the trailer attached to a white Toyota LandCruiser.

Police are investigating after a trailer was stolen from Cobram's Church Hall last week.
The distinctive trailer, enclosed with mesh and blue tarp and double crate gates, was stolen from the carport of the Church Hall at Hay Ave, Cobram overnight on Thursday.
Police said the trailer had wheel locks and chains attached, but tyre marks at the scene indicate that the trailer was towed away with them intact.

Police were called to investigate a fire at Pye Rd, Cobram on Friday.
It is understood the fire started about 6pm, with police saying they believed the fire started after a camper cut a fallen red gum with a blunt chainsaw.
The fire spread for about 20m before being extinguished.

A bike was stolen from a property in Boorin St, Cobram on Sunday.
The 24-speed men's Giant mountain bicycle was stolen from a carport at the Boorin St property overnight on Sunday.
The bicycle had been left unchained, beside the house with two cars also parked there.

A letter box and fence was damaged by a driver travelling on Bearii-Mywee Rd in Cobram.
Police said a victim had his letter box and fence damaged by hoon drivers doing "doughnuts" nearby overnight on Sunday.
A number of cars had also been seen earlier in the area during the day.

A man in his 40s was arrested on Sunday at the Horseshoe Beach Regional Park in Cobram following reports of him brandishing a sword.
Reports also claimed he threatened and abused campers in the area.
He was interviewed and charged, and remanded to appear at the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court.

The Cobram Criminal Investigation Unit has been busy in the past week with a number of thefts occurring from businesses in the area.
In the early hours of Tuesday last week, offenders attempted to jemmy open the rear door of the Sureway Employment and Training building in Sydney St, Cobram.
The offenders failed to gain entry to the property.
Cobram Gifts and Cigarettes in Sydney St were also the victims of crime the following night.
Offenders stole a large quantity of cigarettes, tobacco and other items.
Entry was made into Cobram Taxis in Broadway St overnight on Saturday.
The offenders were thought to have entered through an unlocked factory door, stealing a quantity of cash.
Scent in a Box on Punt Rd, Cobram was also the victim of a burglary over the weekend.
Offenders gained entry via a door after removing some window louvers.
A quantity of coins was stolen.
