The traffic lights will be located at the south end of Victoria Park Lake where MacIntosh St, Hassett St and Fitzjohn St meet Wyndham St and the railway line passes through.
Council infrastructure director Phil Hoare said in addition to the traffic lights, safe crossing points for pedestrians would be included as a way of providing easy access to the lake, and future entrances and exits for the Shepparton Art Museum would also be considered in the design.
Mr Hoare said the design process was under way and would be open for community members to have their say later this year.
“The design has commenced and we anticipate it will be completed by December this year. Council will soon have a draft design of the intersection for public inspection and feedback,” he said.
Mr Hoare said installation will take place next year.
“It is anticipated that the upgrade works will commence next financial year; however, that is subject to agreement on funding.”
