Tim Nicholls' deputy Deb Frecklington has thrown her hat in the ring to be new opposition leader.

Deb Frecklington wants to be the leader of Queensland's Liberal National Party and has enlisted potential rival Tim Mander as her running mate.

In a statement following the announcement of the departure of leader Tim Nicholls on Friday, Ms Frecklington said she had asked Mr Mander to run as he deputy and he had agreed.

A party room meeting is scheduled to be held on Tuesday to formally declare the new leader, following the LNP's election loss, with newly re-elected David Crisafulli and stalwart John Paul Langbroek also mooted as potential candidates.
