Backpacker unimpressed by croc swim stunt

A teenager who was mauled by a crocodile claims he scored a date with the backpacker he was wooing.

A teenager who was incredibly lucky to escape with his life after being mauled by a crocodile in far north Queensland says he did it all to impress a beautiful, British backpacker.

Lee De Paauw said he'd drunk about "10 cups of goon" before plunging into the Johnstone River in Innisfail in the early hours of Sunday to impress Sophie Paterson, who has since agreed to go and see a movie with him.

Speaking to the Nine Network, Mr De Paauw said Ms Paterson was "just another girl. But she is really good-looking".
