Shifting boundaries

Shepparton will sit in the political seat of McEwen at the next federal election under proposed changes to Victoria's election boundaries announced yesterday.

In a report released by the Redistribution Committee of the Australian Electoral Commission, the current division of Murray would be abolished to make way for the creation of a new electorate of Burke in a growth area to the north-west of Melbourne.

The proposed changes do not apply for the current 2010 federal election on August 21.
