Rochester footballer Guy Campbell appreciates life more than most.

The 28-year-old has battled depression for the best part of a decade throughout a decorated football career that includes a one-year stint on the Sydney Swans' rookie list in 2005.

That was also part of the period where his mental illness was at its worst.

Campbell spent two months away from football mid-year in 2004, when playing for VFL club Bendigo Bombers, to wrestle with personal issues.
