Australian javelin champion Pam Matthews is the Shepparton Sportsman's Club sports star for March.
The award was announced at the club's monthly dinner meeting held at Shepparton Golf Club on Wednesday night.
Matthews, who was not able to attend the meeting, will be forwarded her prize by the club and will become eligible for the Goublurn Valley Sportsman of the Year Award to be decided later in the year from the 12 monthly winners of the club's sports star awards.
Sponsor for the month was Clyde Young Shoes.
Matthews is a former Kyabram High School student and member of the Kyabram Amateur Athletic Club and one of five Victorian women athletes named in the Australian track and field team for the Moscow Olympics.
Matthews won the Australian women's javelin throwing championship last month with a throw of 61.86 m.
She went from 24th to fourth in world rankings last December when she threw 65.74 m to set a new national record.
