A recent Wednesday Conversation Hour at the Shepparton Library was the occasion for a presentation to the Goulburn Valley Regional Library.
The guest was Hume Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committee executive officer Joanne Atkinson, who presented to the library copies of Legacy of a People, a cultural awareness resource kit which includes a DVD and study notes.
Addressing an audience that included councillors Jenny Houlihan, Dallas Terlich and Sondrae Johnson, Ms Atkinson provided an insight into the history and culture of the local Aboriginal community and an understanding of various initiatives undertaken by the justice system in this area.
The song Cummeragunja, written by Esmerelda Bamblett and Gary Saunders, is the soundtrack to the DVD and the words of the song have been put on display in the Koori glass cabinet in the Shepparton Library.
