Picola United will look to make it two wins on the trot when it travels to Blighty this weekend.
The Blues responded well to their loss to Jerilderie, taking down Mathoura by 59 points in an impressive return to form.
Blake Jorgensen continued to build his reputation as one of the league’s power midfielders with another great two-goal display, with Dan Atkinson, Lachie Harvey-Hawkins and Corey Cogan some of the other major contributors.
For Blighty, it was been a rather tough start, slumping to a 0-3 record.
The Redeyes were manhandled by Waaia at the weekend, losing by 103, while only kicking two goals for the day.
With Katamatite on the menu after this round, a 0-5 start is on the cards for the Redeyes if they cannot produce an upset against the Blues.
Jerilderie v Mathoura
Jerilderie’s round two and three fortunes could hardly have been further apart; round two brought a famous win against Picola United, while its next game was a 132-point thumping at the hands of Strathmerton.
The Demons will look to get back to basics when they face Mathoura, confident they can post a big win and square the ledger at 2-2.
In a disappointing display, Bohdi Beasley, Brad Parker and Cameron McFadyen stood out, but many more will need to contribute going forward.
The Timbercutters have not started the season in great form, starting with two losses in which they have only managed to score 71 points.
In last weekend’s 59-point loss to Picola United, Sam McHale kicked two goals and performed well across the ground, with Zac Cockayne and Jake Hughes showing plenty.
Katamatite v Katunga
Undefeated Katamatite plays for the first time in three weeks on Saturday against a Katunga side yet to win a game this season.
Having copped the bye in the split round, the Tigers haven’t played since April 13, when they took care of Mathoura by 35 points.
Pat Horsburgh has hit the ground running with two starring performances delivering his side five goals, while Brodie McDonald and Jedd Wright (seven goals each this season) look capable of hitting the scoreboard.
The Swans have slipped to 0-3, their most recent loss a 55-point spanking at the hands of the Deniliquin Rovers.
Kevin van den Goor shone at the weekend as his side’s best, while Josh Howden also looked in great form.
The Tigers would be confident of winning and keeping their undefeated start to the season rolling.
Rennie v Deni Rovers
Two of the Picola league’s heavyweights seem set to battle when Rennie welcomes the Deniliquin Rovers to town.
Both have 2-1 records heading into the round four clash; the Hoppers sandwiched a respectable loss to Waaia with wins, while the Rovers have won two straight after starting the season with a loss to Berrigan.
Rennie did what it had to do against Yarroweyah early, leading by 53 points at half-time before cruising to a 44-point triumph.
Chase Strawhorn kicked seven in the win, but it was the form of youngster Joel O’Dwyer that again caught the eye, the premiership player becoming one of the side’s most appealing talents.
The Rovers would be buoyed by their recent form, with gun talents Ricki Water and Des Morgan on fire as they beat Katunga by 55 points.
Waaia v Yarroweyah
Waaia just keeps producing wins, and after a 3-0 start to the season is the hottest of favourites to beat Yarroweyah.
After taking Blighty to the cleaners in a 103-point flogging, the Bombers will expect much of the same against the Hoppers, who have struggled to make an impact this season.
Yarroweyah does sit with a 1-1 record, although its win did come in the stewards’ rooms after initially falling to Tocumwal.
In last round’s 44-point loss to Rennie, the Hoppers did win the second half, with Marcus Hill, Shaun Greenway and Tim Atkins all putting in strong performances.
Mitch Cleeland is firing on all cylinders for the Bombers and will continue his top form at the weekend, while Mark Meyland will fancy a bag of goals.
