House damaged in early-morning Numurkah fire

CFA district 22 duty officer Peter Bell said they responded to a chimney fire which then spread to the roof area of the house.

Mr Bell said two adults and four children were inside the property when the fire was noticed, but all managed to exit the house safely.

The roof area was damaged extensively, he said.

Mr Bell said a building surveyor from Moira Shire Council attended the scene to check the stability of the roof.

Six tankers, one pumper and the aerial pumper from Shepparton attended the scene.

Firefighters worked on the blaze until 3.24am.
