Next month’s Twilight Hawkers Market, first introduced by the then-Strathbogie Voices group in 2016, will see a zero-waste policy adopted.
Strathbogie Inc’s Shirley Saywell said the market had always had a strong focus on waste reduction and for the first time it would adopt the zero-waste policy.
‘‘Food packaging will be barred,’’ she said.
‘‘All food will be served on plates and cutlery donated by local op shops.’’
Strathbogie Inc also invited producers of the popular ABC program War on Waste to film the event to show large events can be successful without producing mountains of waste.
Celebrating diversity and inclusion, this year’s market will also feature the Sapphire Bollywood dancers who guarantee laughter and participation from all spectators.
‘‘Fabulous food, lively entertainment and kids’ competitions are what have attracted crowds in the past, so this winning formula will stay,’’ Ms Saywell said.
The event attracted huge crowd numbers in its first two years and subsequently won the Community Event of the Year award at last year’s Strathbogie Shire Australia Day Awards.
‘‘Those who have supported our previous Twilight Hawkers Markets have given a big thumbs up to this fabulous event,’’ Ms Saywell said.
‘‘Everyone who turns up on the night is supporting community endeavour — and the abundant joy, generosity and goodwill is truly inspiring.
‘‘When you see locals from every walk of life sharing stories as they patiently queue for food, the sense of connection is powerful.’’
The Twilight Hawkers Market will be held on Saturday, February 23, from 6pm on the banks of the Seven Creeks in Euroa. There is no BYO, and guests are asked not to bring dogs. Please bring your own crockery and seating.
