Making the Invisible Visible is financially supported by the Victorian Government’s eye health program Vision Initiative, which aims to prevent avoidable blindness and reduce the impact of vision loss for communities across the state.
The organisation has been working in the Moira Shire since last year seeking to raise awareness of early intervention and eye sight loss prevention.
G.R.A.I.N. Store gallery manager and artist Kristen Retallick said the new exhibition would feature works in 2D, 3D and digital formats.
She said contributing artists were asked to explore the idea of looking, seeing and discovering what might not be immediately obvious.
‘‘Working and collaborating with health professionals is something I am already familiar with in my work as an artist, but it continues to inspire me to think and develop my ideas differently,’’ she said.
‘‘Creating my work for this exhibition has been such an exciting opportunity to investigate how art can communicate the message about how precious our ability to see is.’’
Adults aged older than 40 are the particular target group for the exhibition with the message ‘‘have you had your eyes tested recently?’’
Ms Retallick said a number of vision aides were on display at the gallery and had provided inspiration for some artists already.
Ms Retallick said the exhibition followed a recent artist-in-residence program Marking The Nature of Things with artists Liz Walker and Avis Gardner in which a ‘‘3D map’’ was created.
Making the Invisible Visible opens on Thursday, May 16, with an interactive presentation on eye health from 10.30am to 11.30am followed by the official exhibition opening at 2pm featuring some of the artists talking about their pieces.
