After receiving a number of grants and donations during recent years, the hall committee has completed a series of major upgrades — including cosmetic and structural works — inside and out.
Committee secretary Rachael Rowe said they had been overwhelmed with the grants and support of people who had contributed in seeing the hall got to where it was today.
But the works do not stop there.
Ms Rowe said the committee’s final step was to ensure that those with disabilities were able to access the hall easily and were provided with the necessary facilities to make their visit a pleasant one.
‘‘We currently have no disability toilets or for those who are mobility impaired and the only entrance we have into the hall that could be used for disability access is through an office where you would have to weave through the room — so it’s not really reliable and especially in an emergency it’s not what we want,’’ she said.
Ms Rowe said considering there were a number of people who were in a wheelchair or used a walking frame, she felt it was critical to cater for them and encourage their involvement.
‘‘What we really want to do is make it accessible for all — we want to have people of all ages and all abilities be able to come in, use the hall and enjoy it,’’ she said.
In order to raise the last sum of funds, the hall committee has teamed up with the Merrigum Football Club to host an event at the hall this Friday.
Ms Rowe said the event — Bizarre Gazzard at Merrigum Hall — was set to be a great night out where attendees would witness the well-known hypnotist in action.
She said with comedian Adam ‘‘Chicken’’ Palmer also in the line-up and great prizes up for grabs in a raffle, the community was in for a night of entertainment and enjoyment.
Having already sold more than 190 tickets, Ms Rowe said the committee was pleased with the support they had received.
‘‘Sometimes in a small town you struggle to get the participation — so to have sold that many already is brilliant,’’ she said.
She said the committee was seeking further donations for raffle prizes and would be appreciative of any contributions.
The Hypnotism Show will be at the Merrigum Hall on Friday from 7pm. Tickets will be available to buy on the night for $35. For more information or to donate towards the raffle, phone Rachael Rowe on 0412168792.
