Council members were audience to a progress update from the Shepparton Art Museum Foundation on Tuesday.
SAM Foundation Development director Sheila Coldwell said the foundation’s campaign was going swimmingly.
‘‘I’ve never seen or been part of a campaign that’s in such good shape,’’ Ms Coldwell said.
The campaign is currently in what Ms Coldwell described as the ‘‘quiet phase’’, where the foundation seeks major contributions to the new Shepparton Art Museum.
But more news is coming, and the foundation is expected to make further announcements in the next few months.
‘‘We’re putting ourselves under a bit of pressure to push things ahead,’’ Ms Coldwell said. ‘‘We’re starting the campaign full throttle now.’’
According to Ms Coldwell, SAM director Dr Rebecca Coates has already been planning for the new museum launch for two years, with a further two years of preparation before the slated 2020 launch.
It shows an enthusiasm for the new art museum which Ms Coldwell shares.
‘‘There are lots of art lovers out there, but we’re talking about people who love Shepparton,’’ she said.
‘‘Not only is it architecturally going to be striking and beautiful, but inside it’s going to be filled with amazing art. The collection already is amazing, and it’s growing.’’
