Young actors from the district have the chance to experience an intensive theatre-making camp, followed by three performances in Bendigo next month.
Theatrecraft Youth Unlimited is searching for local actors aged 13 to 21 years to perform following the eight-night theatre arts camp from Sunday, July 1 to Monday, July 9 at Koolamurt Park Scout Camp in Spring Gully, near Bendigo.
The program began in 2008 and was attended by former Shepparton actress Kaylie Carbis in 2015.
The former Wanganui Park Secondary College student has since begun studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, according to project co-ordinator Joanne Watt.
Ms Watt encouraged more local youth to join TYU for workshops, auditions and casting which led into focused preparation of multiple vibrant and relevant short scripts, working with a team of autonomous directors.
‘‘The participants will feature in three performances of The Places You’ll Go at The Engine Room, 54 View St, Bendigo on July 7 and 8,’’ she said.
There was a fee to participate which covered accommodation and food and a small contribution towards project costs, Ms Watt said.
‘‘There are scholarships available to assist young actors who may otherwise not be able to participate,’’ she said.
The project is run through The Victorian Drama League Inc, with assistance from the Regional Arts Fund — an Australian Government initiative supporting the arts in regional and remote Australia, administered in the state by Regional Arts Victoria.
Registrations close soon and can be made by emailing Joanne Watt at [email protected] .org.au or by phoning 0408366481.
