Greater Shepparton residents and visitors now have access to free gym equipment, thanks to the Rotary Club of Shepparton and Greater Shepparton City Council.
The wet weather didn’t stop excited community members who gathered to celebrate the launch of the recently installed fitness equipment at Shepparton’s Victoria Park Lake yesterday.
Angie Talarico from the Rotary Club of Shepparton said the club had a vision to provide the community with free fitness equipment more than three years ago.
He said the launch was an exciting time to see the hard work involved had finally paid off.
‘‘We are looking forward to seeing many people utilise the equipment, meet new people and have fun while being active,’’ he said.
Mayor Kim O’Keeffe was among those who attended the launch, extending her thanks to the Rotary Club and the council for their contributions and hard work.
Cr O’Keeffe said she was extremely grateful to the Rotary Club for its $15000 contribution and was thrilled to see the vision come to fruition.
‘‘I encourage all community members to give the exercise equipment a try.
‘‘It is often enjoyable to exercise outdoors in a local park and we know that people who regularly exercise feel healthy and well,’’ she said.
Cr O’Keeffe said she was delighted to see the equipment launched in such an ideal location that was easily accessible for the community.
Shepparton resident Nicola Meanley, who had been waiting in suspense for the launch of the equipment, said she was extremely excited by the new fitness equipment.
‘‘I think it’s fantastic. I’ve been dying for it to open so I can get on and have a go.’’
Ms Meanley said the equipment was a great opportunity for those who could not afford to purchase their own equipment or gym memberships.
Ms Meanley said she walked around the lake every day and was looking forward to including use of the equipment as part of her regular exercise.
