Hundreds of pink-clad fitness enthusiasts descended on Victoria Park Lake yesterday for the Mother’s Day Classic.
The sun was shining, the music was pumping and everyone looked ready and eager to get running.
Organiser Kathy Fuller said the day had come together better than most years, with the weather gods smiling down.
‘‘It’s going fantastically, the weather’s good. For the last few years its been pretty ordinary weather, it’s been cloudy and it’s rained on us,’’ she said.
‘‘(But today) it’s really nice and mild, not too windy, not crazy like Friday.’’
Numbers were steady on previous years.
‘‘We had 200 sign up online and I’m not sure how many registered today,’’ she said.
Racing those running along the shore were canoeists, who joined the event for the first time this year.
Shepparton Canoe Club president Barry Bell struck up a plan to take part after receiving an email from organisers saying access to the shed would be blocked on the day.
‘‘I emailed them back and said: Have you ever considered adding a canoe section to the event?’’ Mr Bell said.
‘‘They thought it was a fantastic idea.’’
Money raised from the event goes to breast cancer research.
