Kaiela Arts and Shepparton Region Reconciliation Group are hosting a film screening night on Sunday, May 27.
Proceeds raised from the special screening of Gurrumul at Village Cinemas, Shepparton, will go towards Kaiela Arts’ fundraising goal of $15000.
This money raised by Kaiela will be matched by a funding donation from Creative Partnerships Australia.
The documentary Gurrumul represents the spirit of reconciliation celebrating the life and achievements of the highly acclaimed Aboriginal artist Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu.
‘‘We believe the film will have wide appeal and will help generate greater appreciation of both traditional and contemporary indigenous music and culture,’’ Kaiela Arts art educator Rhonda Chrisanthou said.
‘‘After our highly successful screening of the film Sweet Country in February we hope that Shepparton audiences will once again come together during Reconciliation Week to support the joint fundraising event.’’
The session starts at 2.30pm. Cost is $25 per person with bookings made through Eventbrite. For group bookings of 10 or more, phone Kaiela Arts on 58219842 or 0449539857.
