Building the region

When multi-million-dollar projects take place across the Goulburn Valley, chances are CAF Consulting has had a hand in making them happen.

Renowned across the region, the professional engineering, project management and surveying team has helped to create some of the region’s most exciting projects.

With major expansions to Freedom Foods’ Shepparton processing factory set to get under way, CAF Consulting managing director Leigh Findlay said the project was one in which the CAF Consulting team would play an important role.

“It’s a significant expansion that will see the facility increase from 300 million litres to 500 million litres a year in processing capacity,” Mr Findlay said.

“We work closely with the process engineers who are the brains trust of these processing plants, where we provide the building and civil works to support the processing.”

The multi-million-dollar Shepparton project will also soon sit alongside another major dairy factory project in the Goulburn Valley – Australian Consolidated Milk’s $60 million Girgarre factory.

As an engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) business, Mr Findlay said CAF Consulting would oversee the project’s end-to-end delivery.

The completed factory is expected to process about 100 million litres of milk in the first year, with production increasing to 200 million litres by the second year.

With the recent recruitment of structural engineer Aaron Poole — who has previously worked on multi-million-dollar residential, healthcare, rail and bulk material facilities — Mr Findlay said the capacity to complete large-scale projects was increasing within the business.

Having previously worked for Opus International Consultants and originally from Stanhope, it was the exciting local projects that drew Mr Poole back to the region, according to Mr Findlay.

“It’s fantastic the region has projects that are significant enough to draw professionals like Aaron back to their home towns and be challenged like they would be working for larger multi-national firms,” Mr Findlay said.

“The really exciting part is we have all the talent and skills here in our region to deliver these large projects from planning through to construction, commissioning and handover.”

While completing large-scale projects, CAF Consulting has also played a hand in a number of publically significant projects including Stage Two of the Welsford St Redevelopment in Shepparton, the recently completed Shepparton Law Courts and Goulburn-Murray Water’s Connections project.

For Mr Findlay, there remains plenty of excitement and opportunity surrounding development in the region.

“There’s lots of activity on our doorstep,” he said.
