Melbourne’s Heide Museum of Modern Art curators Lesley Harding and Kendrah Morgan will be the guest speakers at a special Mother’s Day lunch.
In its second year, the event is a fundraiser for the Goulburn Valley Health Foundation and the Friends of the Shepparton Art Museum.
GV Health board chair Rebecca Woolstencroft said the Heide Museum of Modern Art was a fantastic example of the role the new Shepparton Art Museum would play in the community, which was reiterated by Friends of Shepparton Art Museum president Ann Fagan.
‘‘They’ll talk about the Reed’s legacy to Victoria when they left their home and garden on the Yarra River at Bulleen, which formed the basis of the Museum of Modern Art,’’ Ms Fagan said.
The speakers will discuss their book Modern Love, which reveals the unconventional marriage of the Reeds and their relationships with some of Australia’s most celebrated artist and writers.
Ms Fagan said funds raised from the event would go towards SAM’s acquisition program to continue to develop its collection. They also recently presented $25000 to SAM Foundation chair John Head to add to new SAM funds.
‘‘We are pleased to add this contribution of $25000 to the $10000 presented 18 months ago,’’ she said.
Ms Woolstencroft said the GV Health Foundation funds would be put towards the mothers and infant services via a variety of projects.
The event will be held during the opening of SAM’s Best of Friends exhibition, which showcases the artwork created by the Friends of SAM.
Tickets for the lunch cost $55 and are available from the SAM Shop, at GV Health or online via Eventbrite. The event is on Thursday from noon to 3pm at the Eastbank Centre, Welsford St, Shepparton.
