The Greyhound Holiday Fun Day program is making its way through regional Victoria, and put on a show in Shepparton on Thursday.
The Shepparton Greyhound Racing Club was decked out with jumping castles, face painting, greyhound games, sporting activities and competitions.
Greyhound Racing Victoria regional promotions and events manager Brad Williams said the events were all about promoting greyhound clubs as family friendly environments.
‘‘All greyhound clubs within regional Victoria are community based, so our facilities are here to use for functions, venues.
‘‘We do as much as we can for the community,’’ Mr Williams said.
Children were introduced to Turbo the friendly greyhound mascot through dance and song as well as Jimmy and Sluggie from the Greyhound Adoption Program.
‘‘The kids get to participate in ‘handler for a race’ for kids between the age of five and 12 where they get to go out and take one of the dogs into the box, and watch the race from the box,’’ Mr Williams said.
Greyhound Racing Victoria events co-ordinator Ben Pritchard said GRV wanted to ‘‘position the sport into a positive view’’.
‘‘The events are about introducing the next generation of breeders, owners and trainers of greyhounds to the family friendly sport,’’ Mr Pritchard said.
