Shepparton’s Freda Kerr eagerly watched her great nephew Luke Willian compete in the Commonwealth Games triathlon event yesterday afternoon.
The Shepparton Villages resident was in front of the TV at 1pm to watch the action unfold.
Willian, 21, was representing Australia in his first event of the 2018 Games, finishing eighth with a time of 53.33 minutes.
Ms Kerr ensured she was ready to watch as soon at the race kicked off, looking for Willian along the course.
‘‘My husband is up there in Queensland with his sister at the moment, it is her grandson,’’ Ms Kerr said.
‘‘I’m not nervous for him, I wish him all the best.’’
Willian produced a well-deserved effort for his first senior Australian debut.
Ms Kerr said the family was proud of his efforts, cheering him on along his journey to success.
‘‘I’m very proud of him, we’re all very proud of him,’’ Ms Kerr said.
‘‘He is part of the family we don’t really see being in Queensland... we wish him luck, win or loose.’’
