Oz Minerals eyes solar to cut power costs

March 09, 2018

Oz Minerals are seeking renewable energy options to deal with soaring electricity prices.

Oz Minerals has revealed a plan to reduce power costs and system outages at its current and future assets, amid ongoing pressure from soaring electricity prices.

The copper miner says it plans to secure affordable power and to prevent blackouts at its current South Australian assets by building a new high voltage power transmission line to ensure its assets remain connected to the electricity grid.

Cost saving initiatives are already underway at its Prominent Hill and Carrapateena operations in South Australia, and the company said it is also considering renewable energy options including a solar plant with battery storage.
