Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has continued her push to establish radiotherapy services in Shepparton, making fresh calls to Victorian Health Minister Jill Hennessy to meet local patients.
Speaking during an adjournment matter in Victorian Parliament last week, Ms Lovell invited Ms Hennessy to Shepparton to hear the stories of financial and emotional implications for patients who travelled away for the treatment.
While the Federal Government announced last December it would fund a $6.95million radiotherapy service in Shepparton, Ms Hennessy’s office has refused to make any funding commitments, although discussions are taking place with provider GenesisCare.
Ms Lovell said it was time for the State Government to work with the private health provider to ensure the treatment would happen.
‘‘The Health Minister has virtually ignored all of the contributions I have made in Parliament on this issue,’’ Ms Lovell said.
‘‘If (Opposition leader) Matthew Guy can meet with local patients, then surely (Ms Hennessy) can find time in her schedule and show them the same respect.’’
