THE Lancaster Community Group had a special first meeting for the year.
The group was celebrating Margaret Wade’s birthday as well as officially starting their 2018 season at the Kyabram Club.
With over 50 people attending, Joy Salter said the support for the group was outstanding.
“It’s extraordinary really, what started out as a small group out in Lancaster has moved into Ky and now we have 61 members paid up — and we’re expecting a few more,” she said.
“We like to make a fuss over Margaret, she’s one of the matriarchs of the group and she means a great deal to everyone.”
The group began as a way for farmers’ wives to catch up with one another and enjoy a social outing. And it grew from there.
“There’s obviously a need for a group like this in the town, we don’t have any formal meetings — it’s just a social thing,” Joy said.
“But we’re not just Ky — we have people from Girgarre, Tongala, Stanhope and I believe we still have one member from Lancaster. It’s purely social.”
The group will be busy in the coming months, with the next meeting being Easter-themed and a bus trip to Mooroopna in April.
