Four boxes of Goulburn Valley pears are headed to parliament.
State Member for Shepparton Suzanna Sheed is bringing four boxes of our finest produce to Melbourne with her for sitting week.
While Ms Sheed is not a stranger to bringing fruit, she said the current glut of produce was the reason behind bringing a larger supply.
‘‘The current apple and pear glut is really tough on our local fruit growers,’’ she said.
While farmers are faced with varying conditions of water, markets and overproduction, Ms Sheed said the fruit was a way to highlight what was happening in the region.
‘‘I thought I would take pears and place them strategically around parliament with a sign saying Goulburn Valley fruit ... to raise awareness about what is happening in our local area,’’ she said.
