An elderly Shepparton man with major head injuries remains in a serious condition at the Royal Melbourne Hospital after a one-punch attack on Friday.
Police arrested and charged a Numurkah man, 34, on Saturday with recklessly causing serious injury.
He fronted an out of sessions court hearing in Shepparton and has been bailed to appear at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
Shepparton police Criminal Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Glenn Parmansche said the incident occurred about 5pm during a gathering at a Numurkah Rd business in Shepparton.
Sen Const Parmansche alleged the one-punch attack caused the elderly victim, 66, to fall to the ground where he hit his head on a concrete floor, losing consciousness.
Ambulance Victoria paramedics attended the scene and took the victim to Shepparton’s Goulburn Valley Health.
Det Sen Const Parmansche said the man was then flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious head injuries that required surgery.
He said the man was in intensive care in a serious condition.
A Numurkah man, 34, will face Shepparton Magistrates’ Court for a file hearing tomorrow.
