Shepparton Runners Club supported Shepparton’s ‘‘Marathon Mums’’ at their second marathon for the year.
Kathy Fuller and Narelle Pell will complete 12 marathons in 12 months in 12 different locations this year and their second event took them to Wangaratta.
‘‘It was good; the weather was our big concern, but it was perfect,’’ Ms Fuller said.
‘‘Everyone had told us it’s always really hot.
‘‘It was a really pretty course; it follows the river and there’s lots of tree cover.’’
Ms Fuller said she and Ms Pell pulled up well after the marathon, with Ms Fuller placing third in her age group.
‘‘Each one we can’t just race — we just need to run it,’’ she said.
Shepparton Runners Club committee member Mathieu Ryan said they had several people on the sidelines cheering for the women as well as fellow club runner Trevor Dainton, who also took part in the event.
‘‘We also had a few people in the half marathon,’’ Mr Ryan said.
The club had previously organised a fundraiser for the women, who have partnered with the Goulburn Valley Health Foundation and Goulburn Valley Centre Against Sexual Assault, aiming to raise $100000 for the service.
‘‘It’s amazing what they’re doing,’’ Mr Ryan said.
‘‘The runners club has been happy to support them on their journey.’’
Ms Fuller said the pair had just three weeks to prepare for their next marathon on Sunday, March 25, in Albury.
