A love for comic books and a creative eye have seen Scott Collyer and Myles Keenan put their talents to good use.

The Shepparton residents have developed their own comic book series, called Driftwood Pirates, following the lives of two pirate crews in search for a great treasure that no-one believes exists.

‘‘The series follows their journey throughout the world of Driftwood searching for treasure. However, certain perils come up that prevent them from achieving their goal,’’ Mr Collyer said.

‘‘The tales have comedy, suspense and everything in between.’’

The series had been a long time coming for Mr Collyer, who had been working on the idea for more than 10 years.

‘‘It all started back in the day when I was 16, I would draw pictures of pirates and give them to friends,’’ he said.

‘‘And then last year I said to my friends, why don’t we do something with the stories and drawings I had created.’’

Driftwood Pirates will feature 12 issues, with number one and two already released.

The pair said they received an overwhelming response from their first issue, which was released on February 1, selling out within two weeks.

The comic pages are adorned with colourful graphics designed by Mr Collyer and brought to life by Italian artist Inartemarco.

Mr Collyer encouraged everyone to head to the Driftwood Pirates Facebook page to pick up a copy and have a read.

‘‘The books have been a team effort, the stories and characters I have created wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my partner and friends,’’ he said.

‘‘I wanted to do something different... at least I can say I put something out in the world.’’
