Member for Albury Justin Clancy and Federation Council Mayor Patrick Bourke formally opened the wonderful new facility at a special ceremony on Monday, April 19.
Swimming Pool Advisory Committee member Ida Mensforth cut the ribbon to mark the momentous occasion.
Ms Mensforth was a regular attendee of the old Corowa pool, often bringing her children and grandchildren down to enjoy a swim for many years.
“I felt very proud to cut the ribbon. It was very special,” Ms Mensforth told The Free Press.
“The Swimming Pool Advisory Committee have been very positive about the project over the last 12 months.
“I’ve used the pool for a long time and will continue to use the new pool in the future.”
The new facility, delivered by Hines Constructions, is Federation Council’s largest single project since council was formed in 2016 following the merger of Corowa and Urana Shires.
Situated in the Ball Park Precinct, the fantastic new all-abilities facility includes a 50-metre outdoor pool, 25-metre indoor pool, splash park and café.
Master of Ceremonies for the official opening was Federation Council’s General Manager Adrian Butler who described the project as ‘an amazing facility for council and the community’.
“There has been a substantial amount of work conducted by Federation Council and the former Corowa Shire Council to pursue the replacement of the Corowa Swimming Pools over the last 25 years,” Mr Butler said.
“This work formally identified the community’s desire of what type of facility would best reflect the community’s want from a usability perspective, as well as providing a regional attraction that would continue to promote Corowa, and the wider Federation community as a go-to place.
“There is no doubt that collectively, council have achieved just that, and I would like to take this opportunity to commend everyone involved.”
Mayor Bourke said he was thrilled to deliver a modern facility for residents of the council region.
“The aquatic centre will be an asset not just for the community today but will meet our communities’ needs for the next 50 years,” he said.
