Police look for a man at Shepparton East.

A man who sped dangerously fast along a Shepparton East road attempted to evade police, following a pursuit yesterday.

The man was allegedly caught travelling in an unregistered vehicle at 20km/h above the speed limit on the Midland Hwy, but fled when police attempted to pull him over.

People later spotted the man walking along Central Ave, after abandoning the car he was driving, which was allegedly stolen.

Benalla Highway Patrol Acting Sergeant Rochelle Maher said no-one was injured during the incident, but that the speeding had occurred on a road that was notorious for crashes. Police picked up the man, who will be charged with numerous traffic offences.

Police are urging any witnesses to phone Leading Senior Constable Steve Delaney on 57600200.
