Commonwealth Games baton relay in town today

by
February 14, 2018

The Queen’s Baton Relay will pass through Shepparton today, as one of many stops throughout Australia on its journey towards the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April.

To generate excitement and enthusiasm for the passage of the baton relay, activities will be organised along the route.

Schools, community groups and patrons will line the streets in support with banners and flags.

The Shepparton leg of the relay is scheduled to start at 1.47pm on Bourchier St.

From there, the relay will head along Balaclava Rd, onto Hawdon St, then along Knight St, Corio St, Nixon St, onto Maude St and then onto Wyndham St before finishing at Victoria Park Lake.

There will be a community celebration at that location from 1.30pm with live entertainment and musical performances.

Greater Shepparton City Council advised residents to be aware there will be delays to some streets including High St and Wyndham St for about 30 minutes between 1.45pm and 3.15pm.
