Working towards improving health

February 14, 2018

GV Health consumer advisory committee member Geoff Long encourages people to apply to join the group.

Applications are open to join Goulburn Valley Health’s consumer advisory committee.

Advisory committee member Geoff Long said the group listened to ideas or concerns from consumers and presented them to GV Health’s board.

‘‘We bring forward strategies that improve the health of consumers,’’ he said.

Mr Long said they worked with consumers across all the different hospital departments and new members would be required to have an understanding of what it meant to be a consumer of the health service.

‘‘We’re looking for a diverse range of people from the community,’’ he said.

‘‘It could be someone completing Year 11 or 12, a young professional, and people from diverse cultures and genders.

‘‘We want people from all walks of life.’’

Mr Long said there could be up to 11 committee members and encouraged people to apply.

‘‘We’re fortunate in this area to have a facility like GV Health,’’ he said.

‘‘It takes the power of the community to make change.’’

Also sitting on the board of GV Health’s redevelopment, Mr Long said being part of the GV Health community was more exciting than ever with the Graham St site undergoing a $169million redevelopment, which will include three new operating theatres, two new wards and an expanded emergency department.

Mr Long said applicants were required to send in a brief history of their previous community involvement as well as what they thought they could add to the GV Health consumer advisory committee.

Applications close on Friday, February 16 and can be sent to Diane Bewicke at [email protected]
