With free entry and a barbecue, last week’s Live at the Pool event proved an ideal way to spend the Friday evening at the local pool for many in Mooroopna.

Funded by the Kiwanis Club of Shepparton and Activities in the Park, the event will run fortnightly in the hope more children will get active during the summer months.

Mooroopna resident Ivan Lister wanted to get something happening for the children in the community.

‘‘During the summer a lot of kids want to go to the pool and it’s been so hot and to be able to come to the pool after school as a social activity is fantastic,’’ Mr Lister said.

Mr Lister approached council along with an indigenous focus group to express the importance of free pool time.

‘‘It’s a win-win for everybody, it’s a win for council with the pool, it’s a win for Kiwanis, and a win for us and the kids,’’ Mr Lister said.

‘‘There’s no need to book or phone — just turn up to the pool.’’

Live at the Pool happens every fortnight on Fridays from 4pm to 7pm, with acoustic tunes playing and lifeguards supervising.
