A Tatura man has pleaded guilty to raping a woman in the town last year, a court has heard.
Leon Saunders, of Hughes St, faced Shepparton Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
He faced four charges relating to an alleged rape incident on May 11 in Tatura.
Three of the charges he faced were withdrawn in the court yesterday, and Mr Saunders pleaded guilty to one charge — of performing oral sex on a woman without her consent.
‘‘The other three charges are withdrawn,’’ prosecutor Leigh Harrison told a packed courtroom.
‘‘How do you plead?’’ Magistrate Peter Mithen asked the accused man.
‘‘Guilty,’’ Mr Saunders responded, after rising to stand.
Defence lawyer Naomi Smith represented Mr Saunders during the committal mention hearing yesterday.
Magistrate Mithen set the date of Mr Saunders’ next court appearance, a County Court directions hearing, for February 7.
