Help sought

Glenda Mann

Cobram Barooga RSL

The Cobram Barooga RSL sub-branch is seeking assistance from News readers.

We have restored some plaques that originally formed part of a memorial to 21 young men from our district who made the supreme sacrifice during World War II. These plaques have been placed on a new memorial in Cobram and it is the plan to re-dedicate the memorial in March.

We are looking for relatives of those men in the hope that the families who endured their loss can be represented at the service so that during the ceremony we can also honour them.

Our research leads us to believe that there may have been a family connection for four of the men in the area covered by your circulation.

If anyone can provide details of a living relative of the following, please phone Glenda Mann, acting secretary of Cobram Barooga RSL on 0407 040 208, or email [email protected]

●Eric Charles YOUNG — born November 10, 1917. Next of kin: son of Leslie Ernest and Estella Aminda Young of Ardmona.

●John Lawton (Jock) CHRISTIE — born October 16, 1908. Next of kin: Mary Christie.

●William Wallace (Bill) COLLENS — born May 12, 1914. Next of kin: R. Collens; married to Annie Thelma.

●John Hale SHEPARD — born July 30, 1921. Next of kin: son of Mr and Mrs William Oliver Shepard. Brother of Ron, Trevor and David.

Any assistance provided by your readers in sharing this request to family members now living beyond your circulation area would also be greatly appreciated.
