It was all about Making a Scene at Christmas this week when the Ballarat-based Nativity scene collection exhibited 50 displays at St Brendan’s church, Shepparton.

In the Monsignor Peter Jeffrey Centre, the event was well attended by a range of age groups.

St Brendan’s church parish pastoral council chair Kathy Hunt said they were blown away by how many people came along.

‘‘We’ve had lots of school kids; it’s been lovely to see them come through,’’ she said.

The Making a Scene at Christmas display is part of a collection of more than 400 Nativity scenes.

The exhibition’s Kay Paton said it was all about getting people to remember Christmas was about Jesus’ birthday.

Ararat parish priest Father Andrew Hayes took guests through the story of Christmas, reminding them Jesus and Mary were just like us.

‘‘This is about real people’s lives; they were people just like us,’’ he said.

Ms Paton said one of the oldest pieces in the collection was a coin dating back to when Jesus was born.

She said they had collected the various pieces from across the world on overseas trips as well as in Australia.
