Emergency services were called to an incident with people trapped in water on the causeway.

A woman and her two young children were found wading through floodwater beneath Peter Ross-Edwards Causeway between Shepparton and Mooroopna yesterday, prompting a large emergency services effort to retrieve them.

Shepparton Search and Rescue, Tatura State Emergency Service, Shepparton police, Shepparton Country Fire Authority and Ambulance Victoria members attended the scene about 11.15am after receiving reports a woman was stuck in floodwater.

Shepparton police Sergeant Gerard Warrin said the woman was with two children, believed to be about 10 and two years old.

‘‘The woman was carrying an infant of around two years old through the water,’’ he said.

Sgt Warrin said it was a timely reminder after the recent flood event to avoid any kind of interaction with floodwater.

‘‘Please adhere to the SES and VicEmergency warnings,’’ he said.

Although the woman began to leave the scene towards Aquamoves, emergency services found her and the children near the Shepparton Lawn tennis courts.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
