People from various denominations gathered for the Mooroopna Anglican Church Christmas Festival on Saturday.

The new church initiative invited community groups to decorate a tree according to what their group does, which brought out their colourful and creative sides.

‘‘We had about 18 different groups such as the Scouts, Lions, Kiwanis, primary schools, croquet club, Probus and other churches display a tree on the day,’’ parishioner Ingrid Mauger said.

‘‘There were lots of positive responses about the event and the community fellowship it created.

‘‘It’s lovely to see community in our church from all walks of life, and other churches joined in with us, there were people from all denominations.’’

The day also gave people the chance to prepare for Christmas with many taking advantage of a craft stall to create their family Christmas cards, gifts or decorations.

Christmas carols were sung during the day with Sing Australia Choir, individuals and duets singing leading the cheer.

Another feature of day was a photo opportunity at a Nativity scene where people could dress up and pose for a photo.
