Rob Ford was on an unlucky vehicle parked in Carrier Street, Benalla. Many people were caught unaware due to the rapidly rising flood waters. Vehicles left unattended were swamped, sometimes within a few minutes.

This couch was an incongruous sight as it headed off down Carrier Street in Benalla during the floods.

It was heavy work despite the many willing hands who helped load sandbags on the Midland Highway at Pine Lodge South.

In the early days of October 1993, floods swept the Goulburn Valley region with towns affected by rising flood waters, leaving behind a trail of destruction and millions in repair bills.

These images, taken from the pages of Shepparton News' October Flood 1993 special publication, recount the days that widespread flooding hit the region.
