Day for people with disabilities

November 30, 2017

Verney Road School's cheerleading team, the Dragons, showcased their skills.

The Queens Gardens will once again host an array of activities to celebrate the International Day of People with Disability on Monday next week.

A United Nations sanctioned day, it is celebrated across the world and aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.

The theme for this year’s event is ‘‘Good Access = Good Business’’ and Greater Shepparton City Council encouraged businesses to consider how welcoming and inclusive they are for people of all abilities.

All abilities activities, including wheelchair basketball, soccer, earth balls, giant games, AUSLAN classes, art activities, face painting, Dotz for Kids with sensory friendly activities and a chill out space, will run from 10am to 4.30pm.

There will be a free barbecue cooked by Mooroopna Lions Club as well as Lutfiyes Shish Kebab and Mr Sheppy’s ice-cream van.

A number of information stalls as well as music and demonstrations on the main stage will be on offer.

This event is a partnership between many local organisations including Council, Family Care, Valley Sport, Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE, ConnectGV, Gateway Health, RIAC, Primary Care Connect, Shepparton Access, VIC Deaf and Inspired Carers.
