The Rhinos will resume at 2/19 with a target of 157 runs when they host ladder leader Cobram for day two of their two-day clash at Memorial Park.
With Angus Campbell (two not out) and night-watchman Ben Irwin (10 not out) set to resume the innings, skipper Brad Todd said there was no reason his side couldn’t notch up the victory.
‘‘If we bat to our capabilities we should be able to knock over the remaining runs needed.
‘‘With the weather clearing up this week the outfield may be a bit quicker.
‘‘There was still a fair bit of dampness last week, but the wicket should play the same.
‘‘We’ll play as we normally would and just take as much time as required to make the remaining runs and then continue to bat the remaining overs of the day.
‘‘A win will re-affirm my belief with our guys, that we can match it with the top teams.
‘‘It will also push us into top spot with one game to go, which will be a great achievement considering we are the only top four side who is made up of all local players.
‘‘In saying that, there are bigger things to accomplish and winning Saturday will be a step in the right direction towards our goal that we have had for the past five or so years.’’
While a target of 157 — and only needing 139 runs for victory — seems low, the Rhinos will have to battle against one of the league’s best bowlers in Adam Decicco.
Decicco, who has 1/15 from his six overs, has taken 25 wickets this season and has an economy rate of 2.5 runs an over with his pace bowling.
Todd said the Cobram skipper will pose a huge threat with his ‘‘above-pace’’ bowling.
‘‘He is the comp’s equal leading wicket taker so we just need to respect his bowling and score off any bad balls he gives us,’’ he said.
‘‘Cobram don’t have a standout apart from Decicco, but have some very handy bowlers within their side.
‘‘Their Andrew Hogan can bowl tight, and they have a couple of spinners who can bowl plenty of overs as well.’’
The action will kick off at Memorial Park at 12.30pm tomorrow.
The Rhinos will also be in action in Division One, when they host Berrigan tomorrow.
While out of the finals race, Deni will be looking to finish their season on a high with two rounds remaining.
The third placed Division Two Rhinos will aim to cement their spot in finals when they travel to take on sixth placed Katunga.
Both Divisions One and Two games will start at 1pm.
