An information night for anyone interested in being part of a new musical version of an original play about Dookie will be held tonight in Shepparton.
Shepparton arts luminary John Head’s play Dookie was first staged in the town’s memorial hall in 2016 to a sell-out audience.
The new version Dookie — The Musical is due to be staged in April.
The musical play tells the story of Dean, a soldier from Dookie who returns from duty in Afghanistan to his father’s farm with his wounded comrade Steve, both carrying scars from their war experience.
The play explores the effects of war on soldiers and small towns and celebrates the healing spirit of a rich community in a funny, heart-warming way.
The Shepparton Theatre Arts Group production, directed by Casey Fogarty with musical score and direction by Wade Gregory, will be presented at WestSide Performing Arts Centre, Mooroopna, from April 25 to 28.
Tonight’s information session takes place at The Bakehouse, 17 Wheeler St, Shepparton, from 7pm.
