Performer Todd McKenney is looking forward to coming to the Shepparton area — a place he remembers despite singing here only once.
‘‘I do remember Shepparton well because of the cows,’’ he said, referring to Greater Shepparton’s Moooving Art.
The musical star will head to the district later this month to pay homage and celebrate the life of Peter Allen.
Twenty years on from McKenney’s first performance as The Boy From Oz, he said the association had changed his life.
‘‘The Boy From Oz opened so many doors; I was accepted by the audience and have since been handed the Peter Allen chalice,’’ he said.
The live event, Todd McKenney Sings Peter Allen: The Piano Sessions, invites fans to get up close and personal in an intimate, relaxed setting.
McKenney said it would be just himself, Michael Rohanek on grand piano, Ralph Marshall on bass, additional vocals from Lisa Callingham, and Allen’s fantastic songs.
As well as singing all of Allen’s biggest hits, including Not The Boy Next Door, (I Go to) Rio, I Honestly Love You, Tenterfield Saddler and I Still Call Australia Home, McKenney will tell stories about meeting Allen and playing him on stage.
‘‘We’ll also have a table and chairs on-stage and we’ll invite two people from the audience to enjoy the show from our point of view,’’ he said.
Audiences are encouraged to ask questions and even score him if they like.
McKenney said he enjoyed touring regionally, where audiences always provided a warm welcome.
‘‘They’re always ready for us; half our work is already done,’’ he said.
The event is on Friday, November 24, at WestSide Performing Arts Centre, Echuca Rd, Mooroopna.
