After several years in the making, Shepparton’s Ave Maria Village celebrated the official unveiling of its $40000 gazebo project.

Ave Maria Village residential care manager Mary Suratman said it was a momentous occasion.

‘‘This has taken years of fundraising, years of planning and hours of work,’’ she said.

‘‘It is wonderful to have something like this that everyone can use.’’

Ms Suratman said they had already received three bookings for its use, including on Christmas Day this year.

Residents, staff and special guests celebrated the opening, conducted by Member for Shepparton Suzanna Sheed and Member for Murray Damian Drum, with an afternoon tea.

Ms Sheed said the project was a credit to the local advisory group.

‘‘The setting it is in is rather beautiful,’’ she said.

She said it was important to support the growing ageing population within the community and this was reiterated by Mr Drum.

The new gazebo was also blessed by Father Joe Taylor.
