Taking on a challenge

Oscar Rodriguez and Sandra Saenz were squirted with water pistols before being covered in blue dust.

More than a thousand athletes and even more spectators lined the Victoria Park Lake in Shepparton during the weekend as part of the Challenge Shepparton triathlon.

Event organiser Susie Filleti said the ‘‘fantastic weekend was full of festivities’’.

‘‘We’re excited for Challenge Shepparton to be the pioneer of family friendly participation events in Shepparton,’’ Ms Filleti said.

There was a festival-type buzz down at the foreshore throughout the two days, with a bunch of food and beverage vendors selling their wares.

‘‘We are truly a community-based event,’’ Ms Filleti said.

‘‘Without the help of the generous 240-odd volunteers and the council, we wouldn’t have had the success we’ve had over the weekend.’’

More News photos of junior competitors will be printed in News Sport on Wednesday.
