In line with Oaks Day, Bourchier Street Primary School celebrated in style with its very own Cup Day.
Frocked up in their best, the students took part in horse race lessons and later screamed the place down during a yabby race.
Sourced from the region’s channels, the yabbies had been gearing up for the race a week ahead in the school’s fish tank, before they were named and took their places in the race.
Year 5 teacher Ryan Gleeson said there were five heats and then a final, as part of a unique event all the students were excited about.
‘‘It’s not something they see all the time, and the younger years hear about it and get excited and obviously they’re cheering the yabbies on,’’ he said.
‘‘I think a lot of them get excited about being able to get dressed up as well for school and for a good occasion.’’
