A Hampton Park woman has died in hospital after the car she was a passenger in crashed into a tree at Balmattum last month.

A woman, 46, has died in hospital following a single-vehicle collision at Balmattum on October 8.

The collision occurred when a vehicle, with five family members, driving on the Hume Hwy, left the road north of Griffin Rd, and struck a tree at 1.10pm.

Two women — one from Hampton and the other from Narre Warren — were flown to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne for treatment.

The Hampton Park woman had life-threatening injuries.

The driver, a Narre Warren man in his 50s, and two youths were taken to Wangaratta Base Hospital in stable conditions.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the Hampton Park woman died on Monday.

Her death brings Victoria’s road toll this year to 206 compared to 242 this time last year.

Police are continuing to investigate the collision.
