Charlie McPhee has started fishing at a young age.

The community is invited to throw in a line for Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority’s Gone Fishing Day on Sunday.

The nation-wide Gone Fishing Day is a family friendly event to promote and celebrate recreational fishing.

‘‘One of the great things about the Gone Fishing event is that no fishing licence is required, so it’s the perfect opportunity for anyone who has ever wanted to try their hand at fishing to have a go,’’ Goulburn Broken CMAs Jo Wood said.

‘‘There will also be fishing demonstrations, kids activities and plenty of information about native fish and the importance of looking after rivers, creeks and wetlands.

Mystery prizes will be given out throughout the day and there will be a free sausage sizzle run by the Shepparton Lions Club.

The event will be held at Victoria Park Lake, Shepparton, this Sunday, with registrations from 10.30am and fishing from 11am to 3pm.
